We started our journey in 1983 in the Manavgat/Antalya region of Turkey, as a fresh-fish seller on local markets.
Due to the rising tourism and therefore the increased demand for all types of seafood, we invested in our very first rainbow trout-farm, back in 1994. Currently, we own 4 trout-farms, located in different parts of Turkey, with a total capacity of 920 tones trout and 5.000.000 fingerlings.
The increasing number of Customers and our vision to become a global Seafood-Export company, made us invest in a brand new processing facility in 2008. Our facility is on a 7500 m² area, with 2500 m² indoor area. Our current capacity is around 1500 tones/year fresh-fish and 384 tones/year smoked-fish. We also have a cold storage with a capacity of 1000 tones. With the help of modern machines which match the international standards and our trained staff; we got our export license for the EU in 2009 and started exporting the same year.
We supply our fish either from aquaculture farms, or as wild-caught fish from fishing vessels. We offer our fish depending on the customer’s request as fresh-chilled, fresh-gutted, frozen-gutted, filleted etc.
Additionally, we also have our Smoke House department, where we produce all kinds of smoked, marinated and cured seafood.
To assure the quality of our products and satisfy our customers, traceability is our top priority. Therefore, we record every information in the production process. In order to do this correctly, we currently use IFS, ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System and ISO 22000:2005 Food Safety Management System.
In order to prevent food based hazards, food safety systems highlight the importance of the “farm-to-table” approach. Therefore, we record and control every stage of our production cycle, beginning from the raw-materials, until we reach the final product.
In order to guarantee food safety, Dersu begins the examination process of potential hazards at the source, which are our trout-farms. Our rainbow trouts are farmed under international safety, quality and hygiene standards.
We expect the same sensitivity about quality and safety from all our suppliers and only work with those that have proven themselves over many years.
We run organoleptic inspections along with parasite tests on every seafood product that enters our facility.
Besides that, we run microbiological, chemical, pesticide, shelf life and meat quality analysis not only on our own farmed trouts, but on every raw-material we buy from our suppliers.
We also run microbiological and chemical analysis on the ice we use during processing.
Every material we use in our production process has the “Test Report for Contact with Food”.
We can trace back every product that we farmed and/or processed, which gives us detailed information about where and when it was farmed/caught, where and how it was stored and how it was processed.
Operating in a nature friendly way is a top priority for us. We are proud that the water from our waste water treatment system has a much higher quality, then the official parameters would require.
We use ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, in order to gain complete control over our interactions with the environment.
As an exporting company, we are regularly being inspected by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. However, we also inspect our own staff regularly with the help of IFS and ISO 22000 Food Safety Management System.
At last, to give a one-sentence answer to the question “Why Dersu”?
Because we do not sell anything that we can’t serve our own children.
In the century we live, we have to accept that the relationship between society and nature is not sustainable and we need to seriously re-question human-nature relations.
This effort will show us the main source of ecological and social problems, along with the importance of sustainability.
Our main goal is to achieve sustainability in the seafood sector. Future generations have the right to easily access seafood, just as we do. This statement is our guideline in every step we take as a company.

Seafood is a vital source of protein; unfortunately, it is increasingly threatened by the overfishing of the oceans. Sustainability and environmental compatibility should therefore be an important criteria for seafood products. We see it as our responsibility to supply farmed quality seafood and to contribute to the conservation of global fish stocks.
